The Cryo and Stress Biology Research Group is part of the Federal Ex situ GeneBank for agricultural and horticultural crops and is responsible for the medium and long-term storage of vegetatively preserved plants. Cryopreservation of potatoes is one of the main tasks of the group. With 1,900 potato accessions stored under ultra-low-temperature conditions (-196°C), the group conserves one of the world’s largest collections in cryo.
The potato shoot tip viability after cryopreservation is affected by a number of stresses including mechanical wounding, cold, dehydration and the plant microbiome. The aim of the DFG funded project ‘PotEND’ (Potato – endophyte interaction in response to complex abiotic stress) is to study plant-microorganism interactions and the influence of endophytic microorganisms on the potato plant metabolism, growth and regeneration potential.
Your tasks:
In co-operation with our partners from the Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH (AIT), you will work on potato in vitro plants in a tissue culture environment.
You will study the in vitro plant microbiome and transcriptome.
You will conduct hormone analysis, FISH and cryopreservation.
We are looking forward to receive your complete online application (letter of motivation, CV, certificates) as one single pdf-document until 12.08.2022 (https://www.ipkgatersleben. de/en/career/job-offers).
